On Saturday March 4, 2012 Illinois States Men’s basketball
team squared off to play the 15th best team in the country, Wichita State, in the
Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. The atmosphere was crazy; everyone was
going nuts rooting for their school’s team, although there were not that many
ISU kids there, we still packed a punch when we cheered for our Redbirds.
Wichita State took an early lead in the game and was up by at least 10 points
for quite some time. But that did not affect our Redbirds, we ended up coming
back and the game was back and forth till the last seconds of the game. This is
when things started to get really interesting. This is because ISU not only had
to win this game to play for the Missouri Valley Conference championship, but
had to win it to even get a shot at being the in the March Madness tournament.
Moving on, the Redbirds were losing by 63 to 64 with about 6 seconds left until
our Tyler Brown was fouled. Tyler got to the free-throw line and we were all
feeling his pressure because with two buckets he could win the game for us. He
takes his first shot and sinks it. This
was a sign of relief because the game was all tied up 64 to 64. Tyler then
begins to take his second shot and I was about to explode with excitement. Next thing I know he makes that too so all
the Redbird fans and I went nuts.
