As the hockey season is coming to an end, the Illinois State
Redbirds take on Robert Morris University. The Redbirds have had a rough season
so far with a record of 8-12. The Redbirds are 0-3 versus Robert Morris
University before this game. After the players had rested up over the long winter
break they had to come back and play the day before classes started. January
15, 2012 at 10:00 am the Redbirds were ready to play. I could tell that my
teammates had more enthusiasm to play and win this game. Because of the unfriendliness
of the teams and home ice advantage. Winning was inevitable, it was the only option. The roar of the crowd
and all the fans gave extra motivation to the players.
As the
puck drops and the game starts up the Redbirds were looking great. After many back and forth goals in
the first two periods, the score was tied up 3-3. The Illinois State Redbirds
came out the third period with fire. As the final period was closing up,
players started to get disruptive. Two of my team mates had been kicked out of
the game as well as the other team for fighting on the ice. Players were
constants chirping at each other. The referees where giving out penalties back
and forth. The game was getting really serious. With under ten minutes to play I
had scored a goal to take the lead. Robert Morris was shocked that we had taken
the lead. As the game was concluding the fans were excited to see the first
game of the year go to the home team. With a few minutes to spare the Redbirds
score an open net goal to finalize the game. Family, friends, and fans were extremely
joyful to see such a good game. The Illinois State Redbirds recorded a win
against the Robert Morris University in Chicago with a 5-3 with a home win. This was a great win for
them to start the new year.
